Smoke & Mirrors/Day of Pampering Event

Attention ladies. It's that time of year again. Please join us for our 3rd Annual Smoke & Mirrors/Day of Pampering Event on Saturday, February 4, 2012. The event will once again be held at the Geismar Community Center from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. During this event, you will learn the harmful truth and get a glimpse at how the tobacco industry targets products at women and children. You will discover the truth behind the tobacco industry’s deceptive marketing tactics that lure females to use a product that kills 178,000 women each year in the United States.  Also, enjoy some pampering and beauty services from local professionals, while you get educated. Walk away empowered with knowledge and inspired to take a stand, speak out and save lives. Each of our past events have been highly successful and we anticipate an even bigger and better event this year, so please register today.

About Project FIRST

Project FIRST is comprised of women who share a common goal of reducing the use of tobacco and tobacco products in Ascension Parish. The women strive to advocate on behalf of women and girls by urging local city officials and other community members to take a stand against big tobacco companies.
As a group, the women decide their area(s) of focus, such as:
1. Urging local clubs and bars to become smoke-free
2. Contacting local churches about getting involved in the fight against tobacco
3. Asking local smoke-free establishments to spread the word to other establishments becoming smoke-free

Benefits of Being a Project FIRST Member:
1. Collaborate with like-minded women
2. Serve as heath advocates
3. Receive incentives for participating
4. Establish relationships with city and state officials
Requirements of Being a Project FIRST Member:

1. Must plan and implement tobacco prevention advocacy events
2. Must be willing to communicate with city and state officials
3. Must be 18 years of age or older
